Bryan J. Adams
Louisiana State Fire Marshal

A Message from the State Fire Marshal

As I embark on my role as the Louisiana State Fire Marshal, I am grateful to Chief Dan Wallis for his exemplary leadership and unwavering dedication. Chief Wallis has set a high standard and paved a remarkable path for the Office of State Fire Marshal. Our commitment remains steadfast in revitalizing the trust and collaboration that has long been the cornerstone of the Louisiana Fire Service. We are resolute in our pledge to continue being the supportive partner that we have always been. I am deeply appreciative and honored by the opportunity extended to me by Governor Jeff Landry. With 43 years of involvement in the Louisiana Fire Service, I eagerly anticipate the challenges that lie ahead. I am wholeheartedly dedicated to elevating both the office and the Louisiana Fire Service to new heights.

About the State Fire Marshal

Bryan J. Adams was appointed the Louisiana State Fire Marshal on January 8, 2024.

Fire Marshal Adams has a storied career of all-in advocacy for every community he has been entrusted to champion; from providing safety to driving sustainability, fostering opportunities for fun and family experiences and simply sharing an immense pride for the people he loves and the places he calls home.

For more than 40 years, Adams has served in all levels of the fire service. He started as a firefighter with the Terrytown 5th District Volunteer Fire Department in 1981 and climbed the ranks to Fire Chief in 2005, leading the department in that role for eight years. In 2016, Adams served the people of Louisiana at the Office of State Fire Marshal as a deputy chief. Just prior to his appointment as State Fire Marshal, he led the Eastbank Consolidated Fire District as Provisional Fire Chief. Adams has served as Chairman of the Region 1 Fire Sub Committee – Urban Area Security Initiative (UASI). He has also served on the Executive Board and is a past member and past Chairman of the Jefferson Parish Presidents and Chiefs Association. He is a Life Member of the Louisiana State Fireman’s Association, a past member of the Louisiana State Fire Chief’s Association, the Jefferson Parish Fire Instructors Association, the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC), as well as that organization’s Target Safety and Volunteer Division committees, and the Jefferson Parish Fire Training Center committee.

Adams’ public service extends much farther. Motivated to make a difference in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, he was elected as a Louisiana State Representative for District 85. He has also served as deputy chief at the Louisiana Office of Alcohol and Tobacco and as Chief Administrative Assistant to the Parish President in Jefferson Parish. Adams has remained a staunch supporter of his hometown by serving as Board Chairman of the Terrytown Economic Development Association as well as on the Advisory Board for the Terrytown Redevelopment and Restoration District and Jefferson Parish Mardi Gras Advisory Committee. He has also lead the Jefferson Parish Transit Advisory Board as chairman and co-chaired the Annual Night Out Against Crime event.

Adams’ dedication has been recognized time and again across the state and country including Outstanding Service, Special Service, and FEMA Service awards, Firefighter of the Year and President awards, as well as Business Champion, Education Champion, Outstanding Legislator and Legislator of the Year accolades.

Since he was a young child, Adams has been moved to help, to serve, and to make a difference. He is ecstatic to have the opportunity to make an impact as Louisiana’s State Fire Marshal.
