Chinese Drywall Being Investigated By CPSC

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) is investigating possible problems with a certain drywall produced in China. This drywall was installed in homes between 2006-2007 and fitted in many homes rebuilt after some of our larger hurricane disasters. Called "Chinese drywall", there have been a high number of instances reported here in Louisiana, mainly due to a mass rebuilding and repairing of homes after hurricanes in this state.

The drywall appears to be causing corrosion of metal components in homes (creating fire risk) and even health problems for some homeowners. The CPSC is currently, with the aid of the Chinese government, investigating this issue.

For more information, please visit the CSPC's Drywall Safety Education Center at the CPSC website. Here you will find comprehensive information on the drywall problem with instruction on what to do if you believe you are affected.
